Countering cruise missiles is an important topic in modern military defense. Cruise missiles combine the characteristics of drones and missiles, with low cost, high precision and long-term cruise capabilities. Therefore, countering cruise missiles requires the comprehensive use of multiple technologies and tactics. Establishing a multi-level defense system can effectively deal with the threat of cruise missiles.
1. Long-range early warning. Radar, radio detection equipment, and optoelectronic identification and tracking equipment detect cruise missiles in advance to buy time for defense. Radar is an electronic device that uses electromagnetic waves to detect targets. It can obtain information such as the distance from the target to the electromagnetic wave emission point, the rate of change of distance (radial velocity), azimuth, and altitude. Radio detection equipment uses recognition processing algorithms, weak time-frequency feature extraction and other technologies to analyze signal characteristics and realize reconnaissance and direction finding of cruise missile remote control and image transmission signals. Optoelectronic identification and tracking equipment has functions such as automatic focusing, image transmission, and automatic tracking, which greatly facilitates the monitoring of targets.
2. Medium-range countermeasures. Use communication interference, GPS deception and interference, and sensor interference to counter cruise missiles in the medium range. Cruise missiles usually rely on wireless communication links to receive instructions or transmit data. By transmitting radio to interfere with its image transmission and remote control frequency bands, the connection between the cruise missile and the operator can be cut off. Cruise missiles rely on GPS for navigation during patrol. By transmitting GPS decoy or jamming signals, it can be impossible to accurately locate and thus deviate from the target. For the optoelectronic/infrared sensors of cruise missiles, use laser interference or strong light to make it unable to identify the target.
3. Close-range defense. Use air defense weapons, laser weapons, and drone interception to conduct process defense against cruise missiles. Use anti-aircraft guns and air defense missiles to directly shoot down cruise missiles. High-energy laser weapons can quickly burn the fuselage or key components of cruise missiles, rendering them ineffective. Use interceptor drones to collide with cruise missiles in the air to cause them to crash.
